Name:Jounouchi Katsuya
Birthdate:Jan 25
Nickname: Piston
Name: Jounouchi Katsuya
Gender: Male
Birthday: January 25th
Age: 36

Appearance: Still looks like the basic 'older Jounouchi' Piston did, though there's a higher likelihood of dark circles and a general "I did not sleep last night" air hanging about him, given he's developed issues with insomnia and has a new baby. Despite any icons hinting otherwise, his semi-offical-employment under Kaiba has him dressing more formally than his younger self. He doesn't run around in fancy suits (or coats) like his boss, but he wears dress shirts and pants, as shown in the picture. They're just constantly wrinkled. Aside from that, he wears an odd black wristwatch with a green face, that actually expands into this. For in a world where the actual game play falls behind, cosmetics get an upgrade.

Back Story: [See his younger self's profile for Pre-DR background and his thread log there for first visit activity.]

This is the flipped variation of the world where Seiran survived. Instead of Jounouchi and Isis dying in the attack at that hotel, Despair from the Dark managed to kill Seiran, completing his mission without harming anyone else there. But Horus considered the assassination a cheat and called on Sekhmet's help to kill Set. Egypt was pretty much wiped out due to Sekhmet's bloodthirstiness and how beyond killing Set, she started murdering innocent people. Eventually the other gods subdued her, but the reason they were reluctant to let her loose was clear, given the death tolls that no one in the normal world could understand.

In some ways the group handled the death better this time, given the last year had drawn them back together, and they weren't about to make the same mistake of growing apart. But on personal levels for some of them, it got pretty bad. Jounouchi and Mai had trouble when their brief time together, just before and after Seiran's death, resulted in Mai bearing his son - Tomoya. Despite having broken up yet again before even knowing of the pregnancy, the addition of a kid has made Jounouchi rethink settling down, since he doesn't want his kid to grow up in a dysfunctional manner similar to him - especially not with an absent parent. But the fact is Mai wants to keep going to tournaments, while Jounouchi plans to retire having lost his taste for the competing scene.

But his love of the game itself is still strong, and when Kaiba started uncovering underground activities in Duel Monsters, he decided he'd be better off helping weed out that problem. Grant it, he is far too recognizable now as a recurrent world champ to just spy on the illegal events. But Kaiba came up with a plan.

Honestly hiring him on at the company as a lead tester for current Duel Disk prototypes, Kaiba had Jounouchi put out the idea that he resented Kaiba as his employer and for winning back the world title in the last year, and that he's desperate to defeat him again. With this story out there - which Jounouchi is not exactly fond of - he manages to connect not to the underground matches, but the counterfeit producers on the idea that Jounouchi wants to get his hands on extremely rare cards to put him on par with the CEO. And that makes him a believable customer for some of the worst card counterfeiters, for along with cheating to create these copies, horrible surprises sometimes come along with using them, such as shorting out the Duel Disks or cheating at LP calculation and card activation order. These are often pushed on unsuspecting competition, and as these sellers tend to work hand in hand with the underground, Jounouchi's work helps unearth those activities indirectly. There's no telling how long this con will work, but for the time being it's working, and Jounouchi's finding he doesn't hate his work in the company, either.

He was coming back from a trip to 'buy' pirated copies of limited spell cards in New York in time to celebrate his birthday, when he ends up back in the DR.

Decks: In general Piston still runs a deck with Red-Eyes in it, but he's more focused on field-control strategies these days, a la Disaster Dragon. This section will be updated when the deck's been properly put together [As in when his mun unlocks World Championship Edition 8 in WC2009, grk].
